Most peoples perceptions and understanding of violence are media driven. That is they
understand violence as it is presented in a 'sensational'/'newsworthy' way.
The majority of violent incidents however go unreported: from the verbal abuse that
people experience on a day to day basis to what the media regard as insignificant
street robberies and assaults, which are significant to the victim or person
involved.
RIVA (Research Into Violence & Aggression) attempts to present the true picture of
violence and aggression, from what the media would regard as mundane to that,
which they see as sensational and newsworthy.
Our attempt is to present all incidents of violence and aggression with equal weight
and educate individuals properly as to the real risks they face rather than those
that the media wishes to present.
By gathering information and analysing it, we are able to provide individuals, with
personal assesments of what their likelihood is of facing particular types of aggressive
behaviour and violence and through are partners provide effective and appropriate
solutions
